Pem SO‑RT series

Pem SO‑RT series

PEM’s new SO‑RT and BSO‑RT press‑in self‑clinching standoffs incorporate the company’s advanced PEM RT® free‑running locking thread technology. The modified thread profile is designed to significantly reduce vibration‑induced loosening while maintaining fast and simple assembly. The mating screw rotates freely until clamp load is applied, at which point the thread generates friction and stabilizes the joint.

Key Technical Advantages

  • Improved vibration resistance: the modified loaded flank angle reduces loosening under transverse vibration.
  • Easy assembly: the screw runs freely until tightening force is applied.
  • Long‑term reusability: the locking feature is not affected by repeated on/off cycles.
  • Production‑friendly: uses the same mounting hole sizes and installation tooling as standard PEM self‑clinching standoffs.

Designs and Availability

The SO‑RT product line is available in through‑threaded and blind‑threaded versions, manufactured in steel or 300‑series stainless steel. The document provides complete dimensional tables in inch and metric units, including minimum sheet thickness, hole size tolerances, length ranges, and non‑stocked size options.

Performance Data

Performance testing was conducted in 5052‑H34 aluminum and cold‑rolled steel sheets. Reported values include:

  • Installation force
  • Pushout strength
  • Torque‑out resistance
  • Pull‑thru strength

According to the test results, the PEM RT® free‑running locking thread consistently maintains clamp load more effectively than standard thread profiles, nylon‑patch screws, or thread‑locking compounds.
